Baking a Cake

Recipe for success

I am privileged to work with so many great practices. I know you might think, if they are so good then why do they need me as a coach, (and believe me I still do have imposter syndrome occasionally), but I do understand what ingredients make a great happy team, with great efficient systems and loyal patients that value them.

Getting the measurements, consistency and quality correct all the time, is indeed a skill, that we all need help with sometimes. It needs to be monitored and either owners, their managers or other roles within the practice can ensure quality is controlled and the results can be seen.

Having great systems alone isn’t enough if a happy culture isn’t there…I guess its like making bread without the yeast, or cake without sugar. We need to look at our shopping lists and make sure everything is there and we implement the ingredients into our practices using the right method.

Ingredients

Culture How owners and managers care for their teams, will directly reflect on how the team care for the patients.

Clarity of roles and expectations for the team. Job descriptions/Performance reviews/Appraisals

Efficient systems and workflow for teams to follow (yes, I love a good manual) What are your FOH doing? do they have a clear triage pathway? what are the FOH, TCO, Clinician KPIs? What’s working and what isn’t, and how do you know?

Communication – regular meetings, huddles, team feedback and do they have a voice?

Financials What is your Profit and Loss telling you? Is your diary zoned? Are your fees correct?

Method

Recruiting and retaining the right people for the job in hand, but not just within your teams. We have to use the right external people to get the best results. Whether that is a business coach, a HR lawyer, an accountant, a marketing expert, or a compliance guru.

We need to review, be brutally honest with ourselves and improve when needed, and sometimes get other people’s opinions and input.
The best teams and practices that I see are following all these steps and achieving great results, have happier teams, less stressed owners, patients that are leaving raving reviews, and being managed by terrific leaders.

Piece of cake anyone?
